Agnes N. O’Connell PhD passed away on Monday after a long battle with cancer. Dr. O’Connell was a psychology professor at Montclair State University for over 25 years. She was an expert and pioneer in the area of women in psychology. She was honored during her career at Montclair with the Distinguished Scholar award and received Emeriti status upon retirement. She had numerous scholarly publications including an award winning series of books, Models of Achievement: Reflections of Eminent Women in Psychology. She chaired 8 National Task Forces for the American Psychological Association-Society for the Psychology of Women. Additionally, she founded the Montclair State University Emeriti Association and served as their President. Agnes is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne O’Connell Rush and son, Brian T. O’Connell. In addition to her two children, she has four grandchildren, Ryan, Marissa, Brendan, and Lauren. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday 10:00AM at St. Benedict R.C.
