Alexandra 'Sandra' Kassar (daughter of Alexander and Jessie Zahka) passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning January 11th at the age of 89. She led a full life until the last few years when COPD continued to advance. Her family was her highest priority in life and she always put the needs of others first. Sandra was very gracious and her home was inviting to all guests, expected and unexpected. She was a woman of few words but when she spoke she bestowed her wisdom and her thoughtful caring attitude. Sandra loved the traditions of a Syrian cuisine and it was not unusual for diners to arrive when they heard she was preparing a favorite meal. Sandra loved her husband George, married and inseparable for 65 years, before his passing in September 2014. During that time, many cruise trips were taken to the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, and she loved splitting her time in Brooklyn and Coral Springs, where she enjoyed the best of both worlds, the fast pace of city living with the quiet solace of southern Florida living. Sandra is survived by her 3 children, Joseph (Mary) Kassar, William (Maryann) Kassar, and Gregory (Karen) Kassar; her 4 grandchildren Michael Kassar, Jaclyn Starr, Kathryn Kassar and Jessica Kassar and 4 great-grandchildren Julianna Kassar, Connor Starr, Brandon Kassar and Melody Starr. She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred (Mimi) Zahka. The family will be receiving guests on Friday, January 13th, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Funeral Service will be celebrated 10:00 A.M Saturday, January 14th at St James Catholic Church, 94 Broad Street, Red Bank.
