Alice (Abadir) Fanous, age 77, of Farmingdale (formerly of Matawan), went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.
Alice was born to Abdel Malek Abadir and Ruma Abdula on March 18, 1943, in Cairo, Egypt, where she grew up and met her beloved husband of 50+ years. On April 30, 1970, Alice married Samir Fanous in Cairo, Egypt, where they started a family together, creating many precious memories while living in Egypt, Cyprus (from 1977 to 1982), and in the United States since 1986, when she moved from Egypt with her family.
Alice was a wonderful homemaker who crafted the perfect environment for her family to feel love and succeed. With her genuine kindness, attentiveness, encouragement, support, strength, love, and grace, she was the perfect role model who brought out the best in everyone. Her thoughts were continuously on those she loved, always reaching out and being supportive. She dedicated herself to her family and friends and was available to anyone who needed her. No matter what her circumstances were, she was cheerful and a source of strength to others. Her beautiful smile was infectious. The sound of her voice, inspirational and comforting, was all it took to give any of her children peace and contentment. Spending time with someone she loved was her favorite activity.
One of her greatest qualities was her ability to overlook our faults and imperfections. Never demanding, she accepted everyone as they were. Her unconditional love always allowed her loved ones to be themselves.
She was a magnificent cook who enjoyed showing her love through food. Both on holidays and ordinary days, the heavenly scent of her food would permeate the entire house and intoxicate anyone who smelled it. She would spend days creating elaborate, lavish meals that were specially tailored to the family members who would be enjoying them. Her desserts were just as wonderful as her main courses. Nothing delighted her more than seeing someone happily enjoying her cooking.
She was always faithful to the Lord, and she leaves behind a remarkable legacy.
Alice is predeceased by her parents Abdel Malek Abadir and Ruma Abdula; and, siblings Fouad Abadir and Afifa Shafik.
Alice is survived by her husband Samir, her children, Nevien (Wilbert) Valenzuela of Holmdel, Sameh (Michelle) of Farmingdale, and Michael (Julia) of Edina, MN. Also surviving are her siblings Dr. Sami Abadir, Elaine Rizk, Dr. Sobhi Abadir, and Samia Abdou. She also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren: William, Julia, Jacob, Nora, Layla, Sebastian, Rowan, Lillian, and Tristan.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her kind spirit and beautiful smile will continue to resonate as she watches over us and guides us. Until we meet again!
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 2 at 11:00 am, Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Burial to follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, 549 County Road 520, Marlboro.
