Anna M. (Scalzadonna) De Sousa, 89 of Colts Neck, New Jersey died on May 6, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center Hospice, Neptune, NJ.
Born and raised in Westfield, New Jersey, she was a graduate of Westfield Senior High School and East Stroudsburg University. At East Stroudsburg, she met the love of her life the late Dr. Albert M. De Sousa. Upon graduation from college, both she and Albert became teachers in the Scotch Plains Fanwood, NJ school district. They married in 1958 and settled in Fanwood, NJ to raise a family. Ann retired after the birth of her first child, Robert. She and Albert had three more children, Janice Seip and Thomas and Paul De Sousa. Ann returned to teaching at Evergreen Elementary School after her youngest started school. She and Albert retired and moved to Normandy Beach, New Jersey. In 2016 Ann moved to Colts Neck with her daughter Janice and husband James.
Ann was a devout Catholic. She was an active member of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina Roman Catholic Church, Normandy Beach and Lavallette, New Jersey. Ann served on the Rosary Altar Society and was a Sacristan. Ann loved to garden and was a member of the Normandy Beach Garden Club.
Ann loved her grandchildren dearly, was an avid reader, a die-hard fan of the New York Mets and enjoyed sitting in the sun at the beach.
In addition to her husband, Albert, she was predeceased by her parents Adelina and Sebastiano Scalzadonna and her sister Illuminada.
Surviving is her son Robert (wife Elizabeth), daughter Janice Seip (husband James), son Thomas and son Paul (wife Jennifer), and her brother Joseph Scalzadonna (wife Roseann). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren who she loved dearly and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation Thursday, May 13th, 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A mass of Christian burial will be offered Friday, May 14th at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ann to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; www.stjude.org.
