Anthony Andiorio, 91, of Toms River, passed away Tuesday morning surrounded by his family and loving companion at Ocean Medical Center. To his friends and family Anthony was known as Andy, Cooch, or Poppy. Andy was born in Orange and raised in Union, where he graduated from Union High School. He settled in Colonia, NJ with the love of his life, Diane. They raised their family and lived in Colonia for over 35 years. Upon retiring from Hostess Cake, where he was a driver for 30 plus years, he and Diane moved to Toms River. Shortly after retiring Andy started working part time as a driver for Norwood Auto Parts – where he worked well into his 80’s.
Anthony loved sports (especially horse racing), his music, coaching his son for years, and without say, loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Mets fan. Andy or shall we say “Cooch” had a true passion for music since his youth as he played the bass guitar in multiple bands up until he was 87 years young. Over the years he played in numerous nightclubs, multiple wedding and jazz bands. He was witty, concerned, caring right up until the very end, and a great family man who will be sorely missed.
Anthony is predeceased by his loving wife Diane Andiorio and his sister Marlene Andiorio Rillo.
Anthony is survived by the mother of his daughter Gertrude Wright, his daughter, Mary Stoops and her husband David of Florida, his stepson Allen Buhl and his wife Kathy of Matawan, his son Paul Andiorio and his wife Jennifer of Colts Neck: his grandchildren Jeanna Anzalone and her husband Carmine, Chris Karagianakis and his wife Monique, Kimberly Ashenden and her husband Tom, Isabella Andiorio, Annabella Andiorio; his beloved great-grandchildren Gabriel, Maya, Max, Ben and Emmitt; and his loving companion for the last 18 years, Rose Amore.
Visitation will be Friday, August 27th from 2:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ.
