Arlene Hanlon, 82, of Monmouth Beach, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday evening, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born and raised in Hoboken, New Jersey, Arlene was a graduate of Demarest High School and went on to attend Seton Hall University. Following her studies, she began her career with Western Electric in New York City. Throughout her life, Arlene pursued a variety of careers with dedication and enthusiasm, working as a realtor, teacher’s aide at Shore Regional High School, pharmaceutical sales representative, and travel agent.
On October 3, 1964, Arlene married the love of her life, Thomas Hanlon. Together, they built a beautiful life in Monmouth Beach, where they raised their family and were active members of the community for nearly six decades.
Arlene was deeply committed to civic and parish life. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the Ladies Auxiliary of Monmouth Beach, a founding member of the Monmouth Beach House Tour Committee, a member of the Monmouth Beach Planning Board, and served her community as a Republican Committee Woman.
She had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life – spending sunny days at the beach, time on the boat, winters in Boynton Beach, and moments shared with friends and family.
Arlene was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Thomas Hanlon. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Laurie Petrone and her husband William, and Kerry Van Wagner and her husband Richard. Arlene also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Danny and his wife Kelsey, Matthew, Billy and his wife Jackie, Connor, Cooper, and Ryan; as well as her great-grandchildren: Charlie Mae, Ford, and Jack.
The family would like to acknowledge her loving caregiver and friend, Nina, who was with her for the past two years and brought comfort and joy to her life, greatly enhancing its quality.
Arlene will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her generous spirit, and her lifelong commitment to the community she called home. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, strength, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
