Barbara J. Grasso, RN, 78 of Shrewsbury, passed away on Thursday, January 28.
She was born and raised in Long Branch to the late Nicholas and Patricia Grasso in 1942.
Barbara graduated from Star of the Sea Academy high school and St. Mary’s Nursing School in Hoboken. She then went on to receive her master’s degree from Monmouth College.
Barbara spent 40 years of her career working at Monmouth Medical Center and retired as head nurse of the pediatric clinic. She also worked for 2 years in California at Scripts Medical before making her way back home to New Jersey.
Barbara was a proud member of the Tuzzio’s Tigers of the Long Branch Women’s Softball League. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, family poker games, dogs, and watching the NY Mets.
She was predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Patricia Grasso and her brother-in-law Augustine DeVito.
She is survived by her siblings Nicholas Grasso and his wife Diane, FL and Marie DeVito, Long Branch. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews Michael and his wife Tina DeVito of Tinton Falls, Stephen DeVito and his wife Kathy Nangle of Toms River, Christopher DeVito of Tinton Falls, Jonathan Grasso of FL, Peter Grasso of Chicago, IL, and Stephanie and her husband Brett Blair of FL. She also leaves behind many friends and colleagues.
A Memorial Gathering will be Monday, April 19th 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Burial will be Tuesday April 20th 10:00 am at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
