Berta Nogueira, 98 of Holmdel died on Monday, March 15th at Riverview Medical Center.
Mrs. Nogueira was born in Camaguey, Cuba and immigrated to the United States in 1963. She became a Citizen of the United States in 1968. She was very proud of her new country and was very patriotic. When she left Cuba, she had earned her PH.D. in Education. Upon arriving in her new country, she returned to school attending Montclair State College and Jersey City State College to earn two Master’s Degrees in Education. Berta worked for the New York City Board of Education for over 20 years teaching first and second grade in P.S. 17 in Brooklyn.
Berta enjoyed cooking Cuban dishes for her family, tending to her vegetable garden and all of her flowers. She was incredibly talented sewing curtains for family and friends, adorning bedding and towels, and creating bassinets for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Caribbean and most of all to Miami, Fla to visit family.
She was always happy, with a kind smile for all. Berta was a devoted Roman Catholic and faithful parishioner of the Church of St. Catharine, Holmdel.
Berta was pre-deceased by her husband Enrique Nogueira in 1977.
Surviving are three children, Maria and her husband Juan J. Siso, Holmdel, Jose Enrique Nogueira, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and Beatrice Nogueira, M.D. and her husband John Laudi, M.D., Holmdel; her siblings, Mirta Indart, and Orlando Valdes and his wife Nilda; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Siso Bair and her husband Michael, Juan C. Siso and his wife Adeline, Sophia A. Laudi, Lauren E. Laudi and Rhiana Nogueira; four great grandchildren, Justin, Gabriella, Zachary and Isabella; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation Wednesday, March 17th, 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, March 18th, 12:30 pm, Church of St. Catharine, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Mausoleum.
