Carlos Da Costa Martins, 89 of Colts Neck passed Sunday morning surrounded by his family.
Carlos was born and raised in Portugal. On March 10, 1950 he immigrated to the United States, first landing in New York City but eventually settling in Newark. Carlos began working wherever he could find work but began working for Da Cuto construction. In 1959 Carlos and 3 of his coworkers got together from Da Cuto and formed their own company called Jocama Construction. They started the company with minimal tools or equipment doing sidewalk and curbing work who became a leader in concrete construction in New Jersey.
In 1955 Carlos married Lorena Da Costa and they eventually settled in Colts Neck. Carlos loved biking, traveling to see his extended family in Portugal but most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Carlos is predeceased by his sister Lourdes Esteves and his brother Armenio Martins.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife Lorena, their two daughters Susan and her husband Lee Wilbert of Howell and Diane Watson of Freehold, three grandchildren Michael, Jennifer, and Kristen, along with his two great-grandchildren Reid and Aubree and his brother Joseph Veloso of Brooklyn, NY.
A mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, May 12 at 10am at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Entombment will be private.
