Constantine P. Margarites, 86 of Aberdeen NJ, passed away on Friday, June 13th, surrounded by his loved ones at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel NJ.
He was lovingly known as Gus to his friends and Papou to his grandchildren. Constantine was born in Piraus, Greece, immigrated to the United States where he graduated from Brooklyn College, and went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Constantine worked most of his life as a Recruiter for Science Management Corporation in Basking Ridge, NJ, followed by a 20 year career with ShopRite. After he retired, he started what would become his favorite job, as a crossing guard for the township of Aberdeen.
Constantine loved to play golf, was a fan of country music, especially Eddie Arnold, loved a good poker game and a day of fishing. He also loved to play Shang-Hai, a card game he introduced to his family. He loved family gatherings and being together. Constantine enjoyed a Boston cream donut as well as a good bowl of Ice Cream.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Eva Margarites; three children and their spouses, Fran and Gabe DuPas, of Pt. St. Lucie, Fla., Peggy and Anthony Sideris, of Hazlet, NJ and Dean and Becky Margarites, of Matawan, NJ; nine grandchildren, Christopher, John, Michael, Alexis, Andrew, Erin, Anna, Sara and Nicholas; 2 great grandsons, Kairos and Andreas.
Visitation, Tuesday June 17th, from 4 to 8 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Funeral mass Wednesday, June 18th at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, Holmdel at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
