Dan-Nicholas Xenachis, MD, 67, of Holmdel, died on Monday, July 11 after over 20 years of complications from a broken cerebral aneurysm.
He was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1954 to the late Socrates Constantin and Filofteia Xenakis.
Dr. Xenachis was raised in Romania and attended Medical School at Carol Davila Medical School in Bucharest. He had mandatory military training as a paratrooper for the Romanian Army and became Lieutenant. Dr. Xenachis met Cristina in the first year of Medical School and they have been together since. He moved to the United States in 1986 to escape the communist regime in Europe at the time. Dr. Xenachis was employed by Columbia South Carolina Medical School as a research assistant from 1987-1990. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. Since 1993, he worked at Matawan Medical and Bayshore Hospital as a Primary Care Physician.
He loved people, enjoyed good jokes, and loved to have a good time. However, when it came to his career, he was an extremely hard worker and dedicated physician to his patients. Dr. Xenachis also enjoyed painting, and learning just about anything, but mostly the history of nations, and geography.
Dr. Xenachis was a loving father and loved to spend time with his family and beloved dog Carolina.
He is predeceased by his parents.
Surviving is his loving wife, Dr. Cristina Xenachis of Holmdel, his son Andreas Ovidiu Xenachis and his wife Kristi Jones of Washington, DC, his daughter Alice Xenachis and her husband Jason Gulas of Saucier, Mississippi, his brother Xenofon Constantin Xenakis of Athens, Greece, loving granddaughter Daphne, and many loving cousins and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17 from 1pm – 5pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A viewing will be offered Monday, July 18 from 10am – 11am at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Hillcrest Road, Holmdel, with a funeral service at 11am. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Mausoleum, 900 Holmdel Road, Holmdel.
In lieu of traditional remembrances, Dr. Xenachis’ family asks with gratitude that donations in his name be made to Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Hillcrest Road, Holmdel, or to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (www.ocrahope.org)
