David Haaf, age 60, of Colts Neck, passed away on May 16, 2025 in Madeira, Portugal.
Born on January 31,1965 to William and Linda Haaf, he was raised in Voorheesville, NY. He later relocated to Manhattan with his wife, Luanne. The family ultimately settled in Colts Neck, where they have resided for the past 25 years.
David graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1987 with a degree in mathematics. He worked as an actuary in Manhattan for several years before moving overseas with his wife to Slovakia, where he was a marketing director for a manufacturing firm. Upon returning to the States, he ran an automotive repair business until he decided to take a step back to spend time with his family. After about a year, at his wife’s behest, David returned to work and eventually finished his career at Open Road BMW.
David was a warmhearted and down-to-earth individual who prioritized his family above all. Trusted by friends and family alike, he was known for being a good listener and offering meaningful advice. He was community-minded and spent countless hours coaching and cheering on his children and their friends. He enjoyed travelling with loved ones, attending Phish concerts with his family, and playing basketball on Sundays. In his leisure time, he loved diving with his eldest son, making stuffed peppers with his daughter, and (attempting to) play golf with the twins. His favorite activity on a Friday night was to drink martinis with his wife and talk about their week. His generosity and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Linda Haaf.
Surviving him are his beloved wife, Luanne; his loving children, Nick, Charlotte, Adam, and Derek; his father, William; his brother, Mike and wife Sandy; his sister, Kirsten and husband Tim; loving nieces and nephews; and his dogs Django and Ruby.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering for David, to be held on Friday, June 6th from 4 – 8 p.m., at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ 07722.
In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory are suggested to Semper Fi Santa; 610 Essex Ave; Spring Lake, NJ 07762 . Please note in the memo “David Haaf Memorial Scholarship Fund”.
