David Scheinhartz, 98, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 28.
He was born in New York City in 1924 to the late Rebecca and Max Scheinhartz. David’s family moved to the Bronx, where he was raised and graduated from Morris High School.
After graduation, David enlisted to serve his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps – 364th Fighter Group. After the war, he worked for ITT and eventually Fort Monmouth’s C-COM for many years before retiring.
He met the love of his life, Sybil, in 1955 and they married a year later. They moved to Clifton to start their family, and settled in Middletown where they have resided ever since.
David was an active member of Jewish War Veterans Chapter 125 and NARFE Chapter 1533. He often traveled to high schools all over the county to speak to students about World War II. David was an advocate for fairness, justice, and especially the golden rule. He found it important to always do the right thing, and one of his favorite greetings when meeting someone new was, “You have to prove to me that you are NOT my friend”.
David is predeceased by his parents, and his brother Jacob Scheinhartz.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Sybil Scheinhartz, his daughters Iris and her husband Eric of MD, Laura of NJ and Rena of NJ; his grandchildren Sarah and her husband Zach, Andrew, Rachael, Vito, and Nikki; his nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, August 31. Burial followed at B’nai Israel Cemetery, Tinton Falls.
In lieu of traditional remembrances, David’s family asks with gratitude that donations in his name be made to either Disabled American Veterans, DAV.org or Congregation B’nai Israel, 171 Ridge Road, Rumson, NJ 07760.
