Edward J. Joyce, Jr., 89, of Holmdel, passed away Tuesday surrounded by his family.
Ed was born and raised in Queens, New York, he graduated from Power Memorial High School in 1952, Fordham College at Rose Hill in 1956, and Fordham Law School in 1959. Following his graduation, Ed served in the National Guard of New York and the United States Army. After completing his military service, Ed began working as an associate in a mid-sized law firm in Manhattan. He would then move on to work as in-house counsel for Lone Star Industries, Olin Corporation and the Ogden Corporation. In 1985, Ed was appointed General Counsel for Avondale Industries, Inc., and then the well-respected General Counsel for Connell Limited Partnership from which he would retire in 2000.
Ed enjoyed swimming, tennis, fine dining, traveling, vacationing in New Hampshire’s White Mountains (where he climbed Mt. Washington with his children in the mid-1970’s), and reading the NY Times and the Wall Street Journal every single day. In addition, Ed was an avid Yankees, St. John’s Basketball, and Notre Dame Football fan; an usher and a past president of the Parish Council for St. Benedict’s Church, and a very proud member of the Fordham Law Alumni Association. Ed also loved old movies and dancing with his wives (he was a hopeless romantic); and he had a wicked sense of humor.
Ed is predeceased by his first wife Carol A. Joyce; his daughter Mary Joyce; his granddaughter Brittany and his sister Lorraine Schulz.
Ed is survived by his wife Letitia Boro; his children Edward M. Joyce and his wife Linda Gerstel, Robert J. Joyce and his wife Sharon, Charles E. Joyce and Carol A. Lyons and her husband Steve; his niece Lorraine Schulz Shingles; and his grandchildren Kayla, Sarah, Adin, Tyler, Brianna, Caitlyn, Kiera, Molly, Kyle, Jason and Kelly.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18th from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel, NJ 07733. We will celebrate Ed’s incredible life with a Mass of Christian burial which will be offered on Wednesday, June 19th at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Rd, Holmdel. An entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that you consider making a donation to any one of the following three charities which were near and dear to Ed’s heart:
Christian Brothers Academy
The Feerick Center at Fordham Law School
