Eleanor “Jeanne” Artale, 90, of Aberdeen passed away Tuesday night surrounded by her family.
Eleanor was born and raised in Staten Island, she attended and graduated from Port Richmond High School where she was on the cheerleading team and permanent honor roll. Following high school, she attended a nursing program, she would take a break from her studies to marry Cookie and raise their four children on Staten Island. Later in life she would return to school to complete her nursing credits and begin her career at Staten Island Hospital as a Registered Nurse and later at Bayshore Nursing Home in Holmdel, NJ.
Eleanor enjoyed the company of her family at her home in Staten Island, Florida and at their summer home in upstate New York. She was an avid reader, loved to play bridge and poker which she in turn taught her grandchildren. She loved horse racing, Grand Ole Opry, Law & Order and watching hummingbirds from her screened in porch. She was first at the table enjoying a Manhattan while telling her famous stories. Eleanor will always be remembered as a woman of her word and the most loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother.
Eleanor is survived by her loving husband of 72 years Joseph “Cookie” Artale, her children Sharon Fernandez and her husband Richard of Holmdel, Gerard Artale and Teresa Wilson of New York, Michael Artale and Jayne Calano of New York and Jeanne Cipas and her husband Duane of Linden; her grandchildren Daniel Artale, Richard Fernandez and his wife Jen, Alison Rider and her husband Kenny, Kara Fernandez, Michael Artale and his fiancée Lori Moser and Alex Artale; her great grandchildren Emmy, Mari, Sophie, Mila and a new arrival expected in October; and all of her beloved friends and family members.
