Elizabeth J. Degnan, Ed.D., passed away peacefully at her home in Seabrook Village on Saturday, October 13th.
Elizabeth was an accomplished woman, earning her B.A. degree from Montclair State College in 1949, and her Elementary Certification in 1952. In 1961 she was awarded her M.A. from Catholic University in Washington D.C. where she also served as Director of Women’s Residences and Assistant Dean of Women. She went on to complete her Ed.D. at Rutgers University in 1971.
Before Elizabeth began her career with Middletown Township schools, she completed an internship at Pollak Clinic at Monmouth Medical Center. She then worked as a guidance counselor at Shore Regional High School.
Dr. Degnan retired from a fulfilling career as a School Psychologist for the Middletown Township schools. She was active in many notable and meaningful groups and organizations including the Advisory Board of Brookdale College Career Clinic and the Executive Board of NJ School Psychologists.
For many years she was a communicant of St. Jerome RC Church, West Long Branch. Following her move to Seabrook Village, Elizabeth became a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Asbury Park, where she enjoyed attending Sunday mass with her nephew.
Elizabeth was generous with her gifts and spirit, but mostly her love, advice, and guidance when needed. She was a friend to all and was always willing to extend a helpful hand to anyone in need. Dr. Degnan enjoyed the years she spent living at Seabrook Village, where she was active socially.
She is survived by her loving brother and sister, Jack Degnan and Rosemary Becker, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday October 18th, 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Asbury Avenue, Asbury Park. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
