Elizabeth Tuchfeld-Weiss of Ocean Township passed away after a short illness. She was the only daughter of Leah Brandt and Joseph Tuchfeld, who were both Holocaust survivors. She was born June 10, 1946 in Poland.
She earned a Master of Science in Education from Queens College in New York. Liz taught foreign language at Ocean Township High School, Lakewood High School, Monmouth University, and in Queens, NYC. She also taught in the Temple Beth Torah Hebrew School. Liz considered teaching a profession rather than a job and took great interest in her students, going out of her way to assist them and keep in contact with them long after she graduated. She chaperoned several trips with her language students to foreign countries. Liz was a music lover and wrote the lyrics for REACH FOR THE STARS, a musical that was performed Off Broadway. She loved to travel the world and enjoyed going on cruises. She was an active member of Congregation Torat El and cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
Liz was predeceased by her parents, Leah and Joseph Tuchfeld. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Paul; her daughter Cherie; her son, Elliot, and daughter-in-law, Alena; and three grandchildren, Joseph, Hailey, and Jacqueline.
Funeral services for Mrs. Weiss will be Monday, January 29th at 10:00 am at Congregation Torat El, 301 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ, with burial to follow at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue Paramus, NJ 07652.
