Eugene “Gene” Lowy, a longtime business and community leader, United States Air Force veteran, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was 96.

Born in 1930, Gene served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic. Following his military service, he returned home to New Jersey and married the love of his life, Ruth Kleinfus. He then joined his father, Charles Lowy, at the family business, Lowy’s Moving Service. Founded in 1924, Lowy’s Moving Service became an important part of Gene’s life and legacy. Following his father’s passing, Gene carried the business forward and served as its president until retiring at the age of 65. Under his leadership, the company continued to grow while remaining grounded in the values of honesty, dependability, hard work and personal service. Gene proudly carried the family business into its third generation.

Gene was also dedicated to his community. He served as president of the Asbury Park Jaycees and was a member of the Elks, giving his time and leadership to organizations committed to fellowship and public service.

Following his retirement, Gene and his beloved wife, Ruth, moved to Boca Raton, Florida, where they settled at Bocaire Country Club. Gene became deeply involved in club life, serving as president of the golf club and remaining active in the community until approximately the age of 90.

Golf was one of Gene’s lifelong passions. He treasured the competition, friendships and time spent on the course, continuing to play the game he loved until the age of 92.

Gene and Ruth shared an extraordinary marriage spanning 70 years. Ruth passed away in October 2025. Together, they built a loving family that became their greatest source of happiness and pride. Gene was the devoted father of Mindy and her husband, Carl Broadbent; Robin and her husband, Carl Embrey; Keith and his wife, Gail; and Stephan and his wife, Theresa. He was the cherished grandfather of 13 grandchildren and the proud great-grandfather of 11 great-grandchildren.

Gene never sought recognition or praise for his accomplishments. He found fulfillment in working hard, accepting responsibility and making a positive difference in the lives of others. His selflessness, humility and quiet strength inspired those who knew him and will remain an example for the generations that follow.

His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the business he helped preserve and the countless people whose lives were made better by his friendship, leadership and generosity. Gene’s family takes comfort in knowing that he and Ruth are together again after sharing 70 remarkable years of marriage.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Gene’s memory be honored through an act of kindness toward someone in need.
