Francine (“Fran”) Moser Cohen, age 81, passed away on June 25, 2025.
Fran was born on March 23, 1944 to Della and Ben Moser in the Bronx, NY. Originally from New York City, she and her family spent their summers and weekends In Loch Arbor, NJ, until permanently relocating to Ocean Township, NJ when she was 11, where she resided for the next 70 years. Fran was a 1961 graduate of Asbury Park High School and attended business school where she received her degree in bookkeeping. Professionally she worked as a procurement specialist at Fort Monmouth, and later as a receptionist in her husband’s office. She also volunteered at her local elementary school library.
Fran was well-known for her fiery red hair and personality to match. Despite having retinitis pigmentosa, a chronic eye disease that lead to progressive blindness, and chronic hearing loss eventually requiring a cochlear implant, Fran refused to be defined by her disabilities, and instead was known for her strength, perseverance (also occasionally construed as stubbornness), compassion, and unwavering loyalty to and love for her family and friends. Fran had an open-door policy at her home, and adults, children, and animals were always welcome to stop by, play in the backyard, sit on the lawn to watch fireworks, or enjoy a home-cooked meal and some Crystal Light. Fran was the quintessential Jewish mom, and was always quick to offer a hug, some food, an empathetic ear, and most importantly, unconditional love and support.
Fran is predeceased by her loving husband of 32 years, Dr. Jay A. Cohen, her parents, and brother Kenneth Moser and is survived by her son David and his wife Shanna Silver, daughter Kara and her husband Daniel Host, stepdaughter Melissa and her husband John Yeck, stepson Matthew and his wife Carrie, and granddaughters Jade, Ava, Miranda, and Serena.
Services will take place Sunday, June 29th at 11:00 am at Temple Beth Miriam, Elberon, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the NJ Commission For the Blind and/or the NJ State Library Talking Book and Braille Center.
