Frieda Mookas, 91, of Miami formerly of Holmdel, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 29^th.

Frieda was born March 3, 1931 in Miami, Florida. From her early years, her parents and family were devout stewards of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Miami, Florida. At the age of 13, Frieda began her service to her Church as the organist. Frieda played the organ every Sunday during the Divine Liturgy until she relocated to Florida.

Frieda, along with her late husband, John, is a founder of Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Holmdel, NJ. Frieda served her community with faith, distinction, patience, tolerance, and understanding.

Frieda’s strong leadership qualities engaged others to volunteer their best efforts to build and maintain the Church she so dearly loved.

Here are a few examples of the roles that Frieda fulfilled over the years:

• Frieda was a member of the first Parish Council of Kimisis, a formative group for the founding of the Church and the purchase of the six acres in Holmdel on Hillcrest
• Frieda was President of the Bayshore American Hellenic Association for four years in the 1980’s and serving as Vice President as well. As an executive board member, Frieda was instrumental in leading the ladies of the community in major fund-raising and philanthropic efforts leading to Groundbreaking in 1986 and Thyranoixia (Door Opening) in
• Frieda was the Church Organist for Kimisis since its first service held in September 1976 at Christ Episcopal Church in Middletown, NJ, coordinating Choir efforts since
• Frieda was the official Church Secretary from 1990-2014
• Frieda coordinated all staffing volunteers at the first and early Kimisis Festivals
• Frieda was the production manager and publisher of the Kimisis Close-Up newsletter since 1990. Prior to that Frieda managed the mailing process for outreach, including weekly bulletins
• Frieda supported the efforts of 41 Parish Councils with dignity and

Frieda is survived by her beloved son, John Theo, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, godchildren, and many family members including nieces and nephews, as well as beloved friends.

A viewing from 9am-11am and funeral service at 11am will be conducted at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Holmdel, NJ on Thursday April 7 with interment to follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. NJ.
