George R. Kelly, 88, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, with his daughter by his side. Born in Jersey City, NJ; George lived in Bogota, NJ before moving to Holmdel where he has resided for the past 42 years.
George retired in 1999 from the Port Authority Police Department where he worked as a police lieutenant. He was a member of the Church of St. Catherine in Holmdel where he was an informal usher taking up the collection on Saturdays. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He liked solving puzzles.
Predeceased by his wife, Carol; George is survived by his two children, Gary and Erin.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 5pm to 8pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ 07733. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Church of St. Catharine, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel, NJ 07733. Burial will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery in Marlboro, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s name may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at the Church of St. Catharine.
