Gerard Peter Thompson, 74 of Jersey City and Farmingdale died peacefully on Saturday, January 18th at CareOne at Wall.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 2, 1950 to Mary (Smyth) and Peter A. Thompson. He served his country proudly as a member of the US Marine Corps from 1969 to 1975, and he was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a retired professional firefighter for the City of Plainfield. He was an exempt member of the Fire Company for more than 20 years, having been honored for saving a life.
Jerry enjoyed traveling the world, his favorite stop was Ireland. He was proud of his Irish Heritage. An avid reader, he had a great interest in history and documentaries. Jerry loved all animals and was known to have rescued many.
Surviving is his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Robert Monaco, his nephews Kevin (Maggie), Robert, and Christopher (Jacqueline), and his niece Sarah Monaco.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 24th. at 11am at the Church of St. Mary, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro.
