Gertrude Ikrath, 88 of Keyport formerly of Oakhurst passed away, Friday, February 8th at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.
Gertrude was born in Vienna, Austria, where she attended the university to become a vocational school teacher. She taught business and textile classes to young adults. In the early 1950’s Gertrude and her husband immigrated to the United States with the promise of a better life and the hope of raising a family.
Motherhood proved to me her life’s calling. One could always find her participating in school events and volunteering for the Girl Scouts of America. She always stayed involved in her children’s activities. Later, she became a proud grandmother involving herself in her grandchildren’s lives with love and devotion.
Mrs. Ikrath was pre-deceased by her husband, Kurt Ikrath in 1976.
Surviving is her son Peter Ikrath, Tinton Falls; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Robert Bonin, Turner, Me.; three grandsons, Scott Bonin, Eric Bonin and his wife, Kristen Courtney and Trevor Ikrath.
A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12th, from 7 to 9 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Interment services will be Wednesday, 12 noon at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. You may light a candle of condolence by visiting www.woolleyboglioli.com.
