Gladys Evelene Minichan, 98, of Long Branch passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family Thursday, January 14, 2021.
Gladys was born in York, PA, daughter of the late Edna E. Harkins Bowersox and Frank L. Bow- ersox, and later of Mechanicsburg, PA where she met the love of her life and husband of 56 years, the late Robert Minichan. They shared a joyous life together raising two children, Mica Minichan (deceased), and Tracy Ginchereau.
Family was of the utmost importance, and some of Gladys’ most cherished moments were when her many nieces and nephews would visit at the beach for summer breaks and wonderful family reunions. Gladys was employed for many years at the Asbury Park Press working a paper route. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, ceramics, was a voracious reading, still reading several books a week, bird feeding and gardening.
She was a youth leader for the Brownies of the Girl Scouts of America. Gladys was a member of the First Reformed Church where her endless contributions including monthly food collection and special trips to deliver food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas, mailing church bulletins, was a one-woman altar society polishing brass and preparing the church for worship each week, preparing special offering envelopes and candles, decorating the church at Christmas, and working at rummage sales. She was described as a most inspiring and most selfless person one could ever meet for her gracious, tireless, quiet, consistent, and substantial efforts on behalf of the church.
Gladys is survived by her beloved daughter Tracy Ginchereau of Long Branch, NJ; her nieces, Neila Burrows of Windsor, PA; Donna Bowersox of Manheim, PA; and Patricia Byard of Co- lumbia, PA; and nephews David Bowersox of Philadelphia area; Harry Baker of Camp Hill, PA; and Frank Bowersox of Exeter, N.H. She was preceded in death by seven siblings.
