Ingrid “Peppi” Oberst, 92, Ocean, passed away peacefully Friday, February 2 surrounded by family.
Peppi was born in Hamburg, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1927, going through Ellis Island and settling in Hoboken, NJ. She graduated Demarest High School, Hoboken in 1943. In October of 1956, Peppi married Robert J. Oberst and they lived in Maywood, Neptune, Interlaken and Colts Neck. Upon retirement, they moved to Hilton Head, SC then to Rose Hill Plantation, Bluffton, SC. After her husband’s passing, Peppi returned to NJ residing in Ocean Township.
Peppi was chairwoman and president of the Evening Department of the Asbury Park Women’s Club, president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Colts Neck Navy League, president of the Monmouth College Library Association, and chairwoman & co-chairwoman of the Monmouth College Christmas Balls. She was a member of the Monmouth Park Charity Ball, the Autistic Society, the Sports Foundation of Colts Neck and a former member of Deal Golf & Country Club. Peppi was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Oakhurst, NJ and Bluffton, SC.
Peppi was an avid reader, enjoyed roller and ice skating, playing cards and mahjong with the Ladies of Primrose Place, traveling, cooking, entertaining and a nice glass of wine. She was featured in an article titled “Cooking Specialty for Christmas” in the Asbury Park Press.
Peppi was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Robert; her daughter Jeanne; her son in-law Jim; her parents Alfred & Gertrude Heilbut; and her in-laws Bernard & Elsie Oberst. Surviving are her sons & daughter-in-law Carl Oberst and Robert J. Oberst, Jr. & his wife Jacquelyn; her grandchildren Tammy, Emily, Lianne, Shawna, Kimberly & Christian; her great grandson Michael and her sister in-law Dr. Marilyn T. Oberst.
Memorial gathering Wednesday, February 7th 4:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch.
