James J. Murphy, 88 of Hazlet died on Sunday, June 29th at the Monmouth Medical Center.
Mr. Murphy was a Budget Director for Equitable Life, NYC, before retiring. He was parishioner of St. Benedict’s RC Church, Holmdel. He was an avid sports fan. Mr. Murphy followed the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees, enjoyed a nice afternoon at Monmouth Park, and a summer visit to Saratoga. He loved vacationing with his wife, playing a round of golf, taking care of his vegetable garden, working on his house projects, and watching Giants football.
Mr. Murphy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with them and was a guiding light and a splendid example of how to love your family and keep the important things important. All who had the pleasure of meeting him, often referred to him as one of nicest men they have ever met.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Patricia; 5 children, James and Victoria Murphy, Michael Murphy, Mary Ellen Kacsmar, Matthew Murphy, and Daniel Murphy and Jeannine Viscardi; 9 grandchildren, Ashley and Justin, Meaghan and Devon, James IV, Paul and Stacey, Thomas and Alyssa, Jenna, Jake, Shane and Alicia, 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Hailey, and sister Elizabeth Gurl. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret, sister Margaret Fitzgerald, brother Daniel Murphy, and son-in-law Paul Kacsmar.
Visitation Wed. July 2nd, 11:30 am until the time of the funeral mass at 1 pm, at St. Benedict’s RC Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel. At Mr. Murphy’s request he will be cremated privately.
