John left a message on October 27, 2010:
There are so many memories that I didn't know what to write until I saw Jeannette at the wake. What really affected me was not seeing her eyes. They were the windows to her soul. You knew exactly how she felt about you by that light. I was very pleased that the last time I came by to see her, she knew who I was immediately, knowing that she was having "bad" days. We had a very nice visit and I will always remember my many visits with her. Janet & Melissa, my heart is with you both and you know I am there for you. Love, John

Jeanette you were such a lovely person, Chuck and I feel truly blessed to have known you. I will never forget your kind, generous manner--and the conversations at the kitchen table. The garden, the birds, the animals-- were always things you loved to talk about. I don't ever remember a time when you did not ask about my mom, and how she was doing. You were a beautful person, grandmother, mother, and to me--a friend--here is an excerpt from a poem that I like: A FRIEND A friend's an attitiude within you. A talk you can always continue. A feeling you have known awhile. A thought that sparks an inner smile. A friend's a person you hold dear. Who ventures far, yet stays quite near. Whose presence sets the spirit free. Who brings out candor and honesty. A friend will walk life's miles with you. And nourish values sound and true. Though paths may sometimes drift apart. True friendship never leaves the heart. Oh, and another thing, thank you for having your truly wonderful daughter--my very dear friend--Melissa. Without you, she wouldn't be here--and we wouldn't have her in out lives! Rest, dear friend, rest in peace. To the Van Note family, we are so very sorry for your loss. With sincere sympathy and heartache, We love you guys, Dodie and Chuck

I know that Jeannette will be sorely missed. She was a lively and very entertaining woman. I enjoyed talking to her especially when she would tell her tales about driving to New York. She was a good mother and friend to Melissa and I know how much Melissa will miss her. There is nothing like a mother in your life and when she leaves you miss them forever. Karen
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Jeannette's unwavering personality made her my treasured friend at Linden Hall. She had no time for the false histrionics that teenage girls display, but still was a welcome part of all of our fun, and the serious hours we had as well. I think because of the war our class didn't keep in touch, but when we resumed our acquaintance many years later I felt the same easy, warm relationship we had so long before. Now I've lost her twice, but can cherish having known her twice - as a girlhood chum, and as a lovely, compassionate woman.

What can I say about Jeanette..I have known this wonderful woman for 36 years. I have seen the wonderful spirit that was Jeanette, her kindness and gentleness was second to none. I can still see her in her mud waders and jeans fussing in her garden or around the stables. She so loved the outdoors and nature. She was someone I could share a dream with, go to with a problem, or just sit and shoot the bull and laugh and always manage to get a laugh and smile out of her...Her love of her children was immeasurable, and the special mother/daughter bond with her daughter Melissa was one of a kind. I have witnessed that firsthand throughout all these years....May she now forever rest in peace and tranquility and may her spirit live on in all of us...Godspeed Jeanette and give my beloved Dad, Nick a hug and kiss from me...Love you and will never forget....Nancy
