Joan M. Armelino, 87, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully on Sunday, March 26th.
She was born in 1935 to the late Mary and Andrew Golias in Jersey City, where she was raised with her sister Paula. Joan graduated from Lincoln High School, and secured a job with New Jersey Bell, where she continued to work until she and her husband started their family. Joan then worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s company, Organifyl Labs, in Saddlebrook for several years before retiring. In 1995, they made their home in Point Pleasant Beach and later, Shrewsbury.
Joan was a generous and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed yearly family trips to the west coast of Florida. Her favorite day trips included Atlantic City, Monmouth Park and Pegasus race tracks. Joan earned her nickname “Lady Luck” from consistently winning at the slots and scratch off tickets. When it came time to relax, Joan enjoyed listening to music, reading and solving crossword puzzles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family making memories at the Jersey shore in her Point Pleasant Beach home.
She is predeceased by her parents Mary and Andrew Golias, her beloved husband Jerry, and her favorite miniature schnauzers Buttons, Pepper, and Ashley.
Surviving are her children Mark and his wife Anne Armelino of Montville, Susan and her husband Glenn Quinton of Tinton Falls, and Maryanne and her husband Ray Menendez of Tinton Falls, her sister Paula Costello, and her seven loving grandchildren Andrew, Kara, Allison, Eric, Evan, Brooke, and Chris.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 30 from 4pm – 7pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, March 31 at 9:30 am at St. Anthony’s of Padua, Red Bank. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown.
