John A. Salerno, 65 of Eatontown, passed away peacefully on Mon. Feb. 15th at the St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Mr. Salerno was born and raised in Long Branch. He was a 1962 graduate of Long Branch High School and a 1966 graduate of Troy State College, Alabama. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army reserves during Vietnam. John was the bar tender at Tuzzio's Restaurant, Long Branch for the past three decades. Mr. Salerno was a communicant of Holy Trinity RC Church, Long Branch. He was a member of the IAMA, Long Branch. He was predeceased by his Mother and Father, Antoinette Gizzi and John Salerno; three brothers, Anthony, Jake and Angelo. Surviving is his wife, Catherine Salerno; a son and daughter in law, Joseph and Alyssa Graziano, Freehold; a daughter and son in law, Regina and Anthony Russomano, Eatontown; two sisters and a brother in law, Marie Weddle, Toms River and Rose and Don Hotelling, Menifee, Ca.; two sisters-in law, Katherine 'Kitty' Salerno, Long Branch, and Viola Salerno, Spring Lake; three grandchildren, J.D. and Nicholas Graziano and Michael Russomano. Visiting will be Thursday Feb. 18th from 5 to 8 PM at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St. at Broadway, Long Branch. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 19th, at 9:30 AM at Holy Trinity RC Church, Prospect St., Long Branch. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Where most of us relect a belief that human conduct is motivated by self interest, John always looked for the best in others, a trait that this world sorely lacks. I will miss his calm take-it as-it-comes attitude and ofcourse I can not be more thankful for the partnership he had with Mom. John made us want to be better people.
