John V. Ellis, 90 of Rumson, passed away Thursday December 1st at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.
Mr. Ellis was born in Manhattan, NY and was raised there and Shrewsbury. He moved to Rumson in 1948. He was a communicant of Holy Cross RC Church, Rumson. In 1971 he retired as a Civil Servant at Ft. Monmouth. Then he worked many years at B&B Beverage in Long Branch. He then went to work for the New Jersey Highway Authority where he retired as a toll collector in 1999. He was a member of the Red Bank Elks B.P.O.E. # 233, the American Legion Post 055, Hackensack. He played baseball for the Red Bank Towners and in 1946 he had a try out with the New York Yankees.
Surviving is his wife Mary Folker Karlo Ellis; seven daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen Ellis, Long Branch, Joan Ellis, San Anselmo, Ca., Virginia and Frank Mazza, Shrewsbury, Elizabeth and John Lunney, Little Silver, Helen L. Graves, Ocean Twp., Mary A. Karlo, Rumson and Stephanie A. Karlo, Milford, Pa.; a son, Thomas S. Karlo, Jr. and his fiancé Deirdre Ross, Atlantic Highlands; four grandchildren, Sarah and Margaret Mazza, Corey Lunney and Mars Graves.
Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 4th, 6 to 9 PM at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, Dec. 5th, 10 AM, Holy Cross RC Church, 30 Ward Avenue, Rumson. You may light a candle of condolence by visiting www.woolleyfh.com.
