Joseph Ralph Mocci, 82, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family as the sun set beautifully over the Navesink River.
Joseph was born on January 18, 1944, to Frank and Rose Mocci at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, before Holmdel was his lifelong home. After graduating from Keyport High School in 1962, he began working on his family’s farm, Pleasant Valley Farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and love of the land that would define much of his life.
In 1963, Joseph met the love of his life, Gail (Gelormine) Mocci. Joe often described meeting Gail at a local Stewart’s as “love at first sight.” The two married in 1964 and shared 62 wonderful years together. They welcomed their son, Frank, in 1965 and their daughter, Tina, in 1967.
In 1987, Joseph opened Bayshore Greenhouses in Holmdel. The family-owned and operated business served the community for over 30 years and became a reflection of Joe’s passion for farming, hard work, and family.
One of the greatest joys of Joseph’s life came in 2003 when he became a grandfather to twin granddaughters, Olivia and Sophia. Known as “Popie,” he embraced his role with endless love and pride. His family often joked that once Olivia and Sophia arrived, his life was complete.
Joe will be remembered most as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His love, selflessness, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His family will forever cherish memories of his love for food, family gatherings, tractors, and his beloved black labs.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Gail; their son Frank and daughter-in-law Patricia Mocci; his cherished granddaughters, Olivia and Sophia Mocci, their daughter, Tina Mocci; his sister, Carol Unanski; nephew Daniel Unanski and his children Jennifer, Alexander, Andrew, nephew Robert Unanski and his son Joseph Unanski, and niece Amanda Enright and her husband Joseph Enright.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, New Jersey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Catharine, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel, New Jersey. Entombment will immediately follow at Holmdel Mausoleum.
