Dina Smyth left a message on May 5, 2020:
Dear Joan, Michael & Family, As a CBA Mom, we became spiritually connected after Kevin's accident. It impacted me profoundly. When Kevin was at home I was moved to pray for him regularly and I even came to your home to pray the rosary with you. Joan graciously invited me in to say hello to Kevin. When I spoke to Kevin he turned his head to me. I recall his eyes searching my face, such a handsome young man. Time has passed so quickly and the details of my days are hard to keep up with but I know The Holy Spirit has a hand in pulling me back to your family. After many years, Kevin popped into my head 2 weeks ago. It was unexpected and I made a mental note to Google Kevin Kret. This is not merely a coincidence. I am so, so very sorry to read about Kevin's passing but I know Kevin has a beeline to Heaven. The ultimate goal accomplished. I believe your family is also blessed with Jesus's compassion and special dispensation. You have touched so many people in such deep ways, drawing them closer to God, driving them to prayer. You are our angels, YOU are OUR angels. To this day, when I see children on their bikes without helmets, I stop the car and talk to them. I'm probably known as the crazy lady on the block but I don't care. My words come from you and I will continue to work for you on behalf of Kevin's memory. God Bless you, he is with you and always has been. I will pray for your family's peace. Much Love, Dina Smyth

Mike, Joan and Family I was very sorry to hear about Kevin's passing. God bless him and may he rest in peace. Awhile ago Mike stopped by the Ericsson building and we sat down and talked about life. Kevin's journey was unreal. I kept up with all the events and was amazed how your family was able to do everything you did then Mike made it clear to me. Its all about the love you have for each other. God blessed this earth with people like you and know that your son will never be forgotten. I pray for your whole family during this difficult time. I do know Kevin is in heaven living a pain free life. God I am sure has given Kevin his just reward. Please let me know when the celebration of his life is held I would like to attend. Best Wishes Ron and Jane and family

Dear Kret Family, My sincere condolences on the passing of your son Kevin. We might not have ever truly met but I did pray for your son. My family had participated in the Walks for Kevin when you first started them. My mother-in-law passed away last October on the day of my daughters wedding. We took it as a blessing because we realized if she couldn’t physically be at the wedding she wanted the best seat in the house. My father-in-law moved in with us soon after. I started taking him to mass in the chapel at St Leo the Great. It just so happened that I saw you bring Kevin a few weeks back. My father-in-law asked what happened and I briefly explain. He also added your son to his prayers. We are definitely living through some crazy times right now. I am sure Kevin is at peace and watching down on you. Please remember to celebrate him. Enjoy something that he liked to do or eat his favorite food and smile while you are doing it. Sending prayers to you and your family as you journey this difficult time. God bless Elizabeth and Nick Turkovic

Joan, with great sadness I send you virtual hugs and love. It has been a very long 10 years for you and your family, I prayed all the time for a miracle for Kevin (and for my son Andrew). 22 years ago when we met, who would have seen any of this coming for our children.... You and your husband have served the church and community for so long, you deserved your miracle for Kevin to wake up completely... I'm so sorry - I think God wanted him back, maybe to give you rest. Your care and dedication were unlimited and I'm sure God was really happy seeing all of that. I feel badly that I only see you when we run into each other and catch up, but I'm still dealing with all the lyme and autoimmune issues with Andrew, so I don't get out much. Thinking of you often though and praying. Sending our condolences - you now have a wonderful angel watching over you. Love, Brian, Eileen, Kevin, Megan, Andrew and Colleen Kelly

Joan, Mike, Dylan, Megan, and Jenny, Your trial with Kevin has been long and deeply emotional. He is now with our Lord Jesus in Heaven. He now has a new body and there are no more tears. As you, we, all cry for your loss, hold onto the faith that you will be together again. The memories of Kevin have touched SO MANY people's lives. The Special K teams are proof of that! I have my own special memories of "young" Kevin and hold them dearly at this time. You are a beautiful family showing love, patience, and care in all that you do. You have been roll models so many with how you championed ways to help Kevin. God has shown mercy on Kevin and he now lives on in eternal life. May God continue to bless all of you and help you with your sadness as you honor Kevin's memory. With all my love, many tears, and lots of blessings, Cathleen Cotgreave
