Leonard S. Golon, 94, of Barnegat, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 9th.
Born in Korn Krest, Wilkes Barre, PA, Leonard served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy 109th Construction Battalion (Seabees) during WWII. He married the love of his life in 1956 and resided in Elizabeth, Kearny and settled in Toms River upon his retirement from his job as a truck driver for Darling Delaware in 1992.
Leonard was proud of his Polish heritage and his Catholic faith. He was a great storyteller and loved telling stories of his time in the service and childhood. He would spend his free time reading, attending his grandkids sporting events and was the biggest Yankees fan, although you wouldn’t have known it by the way he yelled at the team while watching the games. Leonard played the harmonica and loved dancing, especially the polka. He loved his food and we will never forget our Sunday morning tradition of the Kearny rolls and cream donuts. Most of all, Leonard loved his family, he was proud to be an American, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Sally; his children Stanley & Maureen Golon, Adrienne & Butch Ward, Cecelia LaPoint & her fiance Jim Kast, Mary Sharples and Michael & Dawn Golon; his grandchildren Laura, Erica & Alan, Michael, Danielle & George, Kyle, Megan, Danny, Kara, Sean, Matthew, Owen and his great grandchildren Vaughan, Bruce, Lucy, Alexandra and Brielle.
