Lois Virginia Zarra, 87, of Holmdel passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 during a brief stay at Country Meadows of Bethlehem, PA.
She was born in Livingston, NJ to the late Doris and Edwin Liebenow. Lois was raised in Holmdel and graduated from Red Bank Regional High School. She worked for Bell Labs before raising her family full time. Lois and her beloved husband Michael met at Manasquan Beach and married in 1961 at Holmdel Community Church. A lifelong member of the church since 1948, Lois’ involvement there spanned over 70 years.
Lois was quite creative and enjoyed cross-stitching and knitting. Her daughters especially get a thrill out of taking guests through their homes to see Lois’ cross-stitch works which adorn the walls and shelves. She also delighted in baking, cooking, and canning. At Christmastime, she spent countless hours decorating the house and baking hundreds of her delicious Christmas cookies, which we were still eating at Easter!
Lois’ generosity was shown by the numerous works of art that she created and gave as gifts for the Church, for bridal and baby showers, for Christmas and birthdays, and most often…just because.
Lois was also very sociable. She played bridge, walked with her friends, and hosted many gatherings including annual Super Bowl parties featuring her homemade delicacies. She was also an avid golfer and won the Women’s Flight A Championship at Beacon Hill CC in August 1977.
Above all, she loved spending time with her family. She and Mike traveled the world including trips to Alaska, Greece, Mexico, and the Netherlands; she also cherished summer beach vacations with her children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, brother Bob Liebenow, and sister-in-law Lesley Liebenow.
Lois is survived by her husband of 63 years Michael Zarra; their daughters Leigh and her husband Bill Kleinberg of Emmaus, PA, and Allison and her husband Michael Giambra of Rocky Hill, NJ; brothers Bill and Don Liebenow; sisters-in-law Lynn Liebenow and Janice Liebenow; grandchildren Kyle, Danielle, and Geoffrey Kleinberg, and Brian Giambra; her friend and caregiver Rosie Hamilton; many loving family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather 12:30-1:00 p.m. November 29 at Holmdel Community Church, 40 Main Street, Holmdel, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Holmdel Community Church Cemetery.
In lieu of traditional remembrances, Lois’ family asks, with gratitude, that donations in her memory be made to The ALS Association.
