Louis W. Kaufer, of Lincroft passed away on Wednesday evening, May 29th, 2013 at his home. Born in West New York, NJ, Louis lived in Lincroft. Prior to his retirement, Louis worked as an Information Technology Business Partner for PSE&G in Newark. He was president of the 2nd NJ Brigade Re-enactment Group, and Captain of the 7th NJ Infantry Vols. Louis loved the beach and travelling, and was an avid NY Giants football fan, a San Francisco Giants baseball fan, and a NJ Devils fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was predeceased by his parents Wilbur and Elizabeth Kaufer. He is survived by his wife Linda, his son Kurt and his wife Jaime, daughter Kristen and her husband Michael Kramley, sister Karen Potts and her husband Tom, niece Kristy Stanisljevic, nephews Eric and Alex Potts, and his granddaughter Hayden. Visitation will be on Saturday June 1st from 2 to 6 PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 – South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A funeral service will be offered at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00A.M. Entombment will then follow at the Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of sending flowers, Louis asked that donations be made in his memory to: St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Sorry to hear the sad news from Emmet White on Monday, Nov 18th; Lou was a good person, friend and business associate in the 70's at PSE&G and he will be missed

I am so sorry to hear about his passing. He was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. I hope you all find peace and comfort in his memories.

Lin & family, SO sorry to hear about Lou's passing. He was definitely one of the good guys at PSEG..always stopped to say hello, always had time for you, always knew your name. Working for him as Manager & then working with him in many situations over the years was never a problem, always knew what to say. I have known Lou for the past 30 years, and I can say he was not only a mentor but a friend. Thirty years ago Lou was the head of the IT Systems Department, when I came aboard. Being young, I was a bit nervous during the interview process, where I was aware that I would be meeting with several technical folks. Lou made it a point to see me first. I believe it was intentional on his part. He was surely aware that this could be an anxious moment for me, and he wanted to place me at ease. Just spending a few minutes with him, I felt like I had known him for years. He had that way about him and he never lost that touch. I always felt that at ease with him and that I could reach out to him at any time for direction and support. It was just part of his nature to be that way, and I will always remember and appreciate the way he treated his fellow workers and friends. Lou will surely be missed. He was a great guy! He was the epitome of a kind and caring individual; and always a gentleman no matter what the circumstance. Lin, Our hearts go out to you and Lou's family during this difficult time. I will always smile when I think of him because that was what he left us all with.

I first met Lou before I was about to undergo quadruple bypass surgery. He had just had one himself and he reached out to me to reassure me that all would be well, but to prepare for the struggles ahead. He kept checking up on me every now and then to make sure I was taking my meds and keeping a positive outlook on life. What a classy guy, and I never knew him before then. He will be so missed..

My condolences to Lin and Lou's family. I was saddened to hear of Lou's passing last week. I will always remember Lou with fondness and especially remember working with him on the GSIMS project in Boston. He will be greatly missed but our memories of Lou will always be with us.

Lou Kaufer was more than a leader one could trust to always do the right thing for his men, he was a friend and confident with whom you could share almost anything. Whether around the fire or off the field, he was intelligent, considerate and always open to a good, meaty discussion. I will miss him because, as someone who was older and active in the hobby, I felt a greater bond than I have with many others....there is a hole in my aura which cannot be readily filled.

On this day, we remember Captain Lou Kaufer, loved and respected by many. A man of courage, for he fought a good fight. Dear Lord, we thank you for the faith that frees; the love that knows it cannot lose its own. The love that looking through the shadows sees that You and Captain Lou are forever one. Of all the people at PSEG, Lou always brought a sense of professionalism that made everyone's lives better. I was shocked to hear of his passing and wish the family peace knowing he is with God.

Lou is the most courageous man I know. To have suffered so long and always had a smile on his face. Our condolences to Lin and the entire Kaufer family. Lou will be missed, and always remembered.

Unfortunately there are far too few wonderful people like Lou and Lin. They accepted me and my family into their re-enacting community at the onset, 22 years ago. They are an invaluable source of knowledge, advice & compassion. Some of the happiest times of my life were spent at those camps. Today there is a void in my heart that will not soon be filled. My condolances to Lin and all family and friends. We all share in your sorrow but know our world was made better by a Good Man whose time with us was too short. The sun will shine again and our memories will last forever.

Lou, was great to work with and did a lot for those who worked with him. He will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace.

Knowing Lou and sharing with him at the lunch table as well as during my time in IT was a highlight of my time at PSE&G. Lou always had a upbeat perspective which brightened those around him. Thanks Lou for good counsel many times in your understated way. Those who knew you will miss you greatly.

I like many of Lou's work associates was very sorry to hear the sad news regarding Lou. My thoughts and prays will be with Lin and her family during this time of sorrow.

It doesn't seem like 15 years that Matt and I sat at a table at the Lincroft Inn with Lou trying to convince us to join the 7th Infantry. Now I have a very large hole in my heart. I will miss our talks around the fire or at the USV meetings. But I think I will miss hearing his voice on the phone which always started with "Hey Greg" God speed my friend and make sure you look up my family.

Uncle Lou--UL as we called him--was my only really close uncle. We spent most holidays, countless family parties, & many beach vacations together. I have so many happy memories of my time with him. As a child, his antics like making/wearing walnut-shell eyes were hilarious & I always wanted to be around him! As an adult, UL always showed interest in my life & family, and he was a great person to go to for advice or just to talk to about history, politics, sports, or anything. To me, UL is a hero. He endured so much & fought so hard, all while keeping a "can-do" attitude. He touched so many lives in his too-short time here on Earth. My heart is broken for my cousins Kristen & Kurt, my Aunt Lin, & my mom Karen. I'm going to miss my Godfather more than words can describe. I'm so grateful that the tiny table he made when he was in 7th grade is in my baby girl's nursery. It's something I'll always cherish. I love you so much, UL. Rest in peace and give my love to Mama & Papa in Heaven.
