Simona left a message on March 28, 2021:
It's hard to believe that she is not here with us today, she was the kindest, most thoughtful, loving, devout and doting grandmother, any grandchild could only wish for. She was prime & proper she always looked her best and presented herself with such grace and poise. She shared her love with others through her cooking and her recipes, her dinner parties were something I still remember to this day. I have talked to many of you, and I have heard countless stories about how great of a cook she was, her cooking brought people together. She loved her meals and water to be scorching hot. My love for mangos started with my nana’s mango pickle and mango soufflé, she would say she made it ‘just for me’. She was selfless, she always made it for me when I would stay over or visit her. I knew I would come home and there would be a container of mango soufflé ‘just for me’. Having sleepovers with nana was something me and my brother looked forward to every weekend. Without hesitation she would walk to the nearby store in 50-degree Kuwait heat to buy us crisp, ice cream and chocolate, she would bring a double size mattress to the living room single handily and sprawl it in front of the tv every afternoon so we can watch full house and French prince of bel air together, she would sing to me mockingbird while tapping my back gently during our afternoon naps together. She sincerely cared about us and our well being and always showed us how to find joy in everything we did. She was a giver of all givers, I never met anybody with such tremendous gift-giving ability. Her gifts took all kinds of forms not only the physical ones from her trips abroad. But it was never about the actual gifts that I will miss, yet again what would I do with toddler princess slippers or a Cinderella colouring book. It would be a prayer, a blessing, a song, a sewing lesson or her advice on life that I will miss the most. Even outside the gifts, if there was anything, she found interesting in her reader’s digest during her afternoon read, she would mark or cut it out and write the name and date for the person she wanted to read it to. She loved her grandchildren, and she was proud of all of us. Education was so important to her. Even though she had the title of Nana, she was also my nursery teacher. She taught me the alphabet, how to count to a 100, to read and write in cursive which later on was appreciated by all my teachers who praised my penmanship. When I started university and moved away from home, she would tell me to be strong and have the courage this were the same words she left with me before she passed. She would tell me every time I spoke to her, in her words ‘Think in your mind that you can do it and you will. She was always right. She made me recognise my own potential when I did not see it for myself. When I graduated from law school, she said she was proud of me and she was positive that I would bring about change. She believed in me till the very end. As I move my hands, think and my heart beats she is with me. I ask you all to keep my nana close to you, pay attention to the way you do things I bet you will see a part of her with you every day. Il cherishes the abundant memories she has left me with and love her unconditionally just like she did. Rest in internal peace my beautiful Nana. I love you forever and il miss you often. But for now, I will continue to listen to the last advice you gave me and will continue to live life being strong and taking courage.
Sinclare left a message on March 28, 2021:
My Nana, was pious, beautiful, kind, and always giving. She gently guided me on what was right from wrong. She was a perfectionist because she always wanted me to do my best no matter what the outcome was. She always believed in me and my capabilities and she motivated me to overcome any challenges I would face and she always right. My nana was always caring and loving, Everyone, who knew my nana in that two- storey brown and beige building loved her warm smile and company. I can still recall many amazing memories of her. Some of these memories to name a few were her amazing and delicious food. Every afternoon, during our weekend stayovers in Kuwait my nana would prepare for me my favourite reachado mackrels, goan sausages and pilau rice which I would enjoy with great taste. We were awakened every Thursday morning to her sweet voice singing praises to God and reciting her prayers aloud. My Nana passed on her devout Catholic belief to me by narrating countless bible stories during our afternoon naps together and taught me and my sister to recite the rosary every night without fail. Till recently, I and my nana would recite the divine mercy rosary every night and I continued to recite the rosary and pray for her when I knew she was critically ill like she did for me throughout my life. I am sure that many of you would agree that my nana was an amazing teacher. And, indeed she was. My nana tutored and moulded young minds to succeed in life. She was pivotal in my education as she was my favourite teacher. She took time and patience in teaching me how to read and write, she never hurried me to understand when I didn’t. She always took her time and she praised me by saying “very good, well-done baba” and she continued to do so with all my achievements. My nana received her education in Portuguese. I wanted to learn how to speak in Portuguese as I wanted to learn different languages. I was sitting in my room trying to find a course that taught Portuguese. My nana surprised me by saying she knew to speak Portuguese fluently and was willing to teach me and I was eager to learn as she was my favourite teacher. Every day we used to sit on our beds, and she would teach me Portuguese. I’m glad I learnt it from her as I am able to converse in Portuguese till today and will continue to learn in her legacy. My nana passed peacefully, as her byword was peace, forgiveness was her armour. She always praised the good in others and never spoke ill of anyone. In my nana last word’s she said to me “I am always with you, Jesus is always with you and to take courage” and I will take these words with me throughout my life. My dearest Nana you will surely be missed and remembered by all of us. We know that heaven has gained a true angel watching over us and interceding on our behalf. I truly believe you are with me everywhere I go and everything I do. I am where I am because of you. I love you nana and I will miss you a lot. Rest in eternal peace, my beautiful angel.
