Mary Jane “Mandy” O’Shaughnessy, 65, of Keyport, died on Thursday, March 26 with her husband and daughter at her side.
Mandy was born in the Bronx to the late Mary and Donald O’Shaughnessy. She spent half of her childhood in the Bronx and the other half in Hazlet NJ with her parents and her two brothers. She graduated from Mater Dei High School early, and then moved to Clearwater Florida, where she graduated from college, receiving a bachelor’s degree. Mandy began her family in Florida, and moved to Hazlet shortly thereafter, finally settling in Keyport in 2011.
Working hard and making a difference were Mandy’s passions. She was very proud of her work as the Executive Director of various Assisted Living Communities and loved the time she spent working in hospice. Outside of work, Mandy loved to spend time helping her own community through her volunteer work with the Hazlet First Aid Squad, where she devoted 30 years of her time and made it to the rank of Captain.
Mandy loved party planning and throwing her annual Lake Party. She loved her yearly Christmas Trip to Disney World. She loved her dogs and her family fiercely. She worked hard, partied harder, and loved hardest of all. She was generous and kind in a way that is rare. She would think of others even in her own moments of despair. She had a way of making everyone smile and life was always a little brighter with her around. She made friends everywhere she went. The only thing stronger than her presence will be her absence.
She is predeceased by her parents, and her brothers, Donald Jr. and Brian O’Shaughnessy.
Mandy is survived by her husband, Alan Goodman, her daughter, Brittany Goossen of Toms River, and her two beloved Dogs, Lacey and Gracie.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2 from 4pm – 8pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road. A funeral home service will be offered at 6:00 pm.
