Marcella “Marcy” Sharpe, 102, of Holmdel, died on Monday, January 13th.
Marcy was born in Minnesota to the late Rose and Peter Goeden. She graduated from Verndale High School in 1940 and went on to graduate from St. Cloud Business School. After taking her civil service exam, Marcy was offered a job with the Department of Defense, presently known as The Pentagon, and moved to Washington D.C., where she met her beloved husband, John. They married in 1949 and moved to Jersey City, where they began their family, and finally settled in Holmdel in 1956. Together, they owned M & S Meat Market in Keyport.
Marcy enjoyed doing puzzles, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, traveling, trips to Atlantic City, and summer family vacations at the beach on LBI. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Benedict’s and later St. Catharine’s. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is predeceased by her husband John M. Sharpe and her siblings Maryann Hartman, Bernice Larson, Eileen Boyer, Ione Malone, and Lorraine Richter.
Marcy is survived by her children Janet and her husband David Olden of Acton, MA, Margaret “Meg” and her husband Donald Sadowski of Myrtle Beach, SC, Marcella “Sally” and her husband Mark Lenarz of Grand Rapids, MN, Karen Peoples of Murrells Inlet, SC, Joan and her husband John Speranza of Robbinsville, and John Sharpe of Holmdel, 10 grandchildren Jennifer, Courtney, Brett, Jill, Matthew, Adam, Maggie, Robbie, Daniel, and Claire, and nine great-grandchildren Olivia, Penn, Wells, James, Tyler, Theo, Ellie, Cecilia, Nicholas, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19th from 1pm – 4pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, January 20th at 9:15am at the Church of St. Catharine’s, Holmdel. Burial will follow at Holmdel Cemetery.
