Marie Smith, 88, of West Long Branch, was called to rest Thursday, January 6th.

Marie was born in Long Branch and raised in Rumson by her parents Vincent and Rose Cantalice. She graduated from Rumson high school. Being an ambitious woman, she was Secretary and then President of the Lady Auxiliary for the Elks in Long Branch in addition to her job as bookkeeper at Westwood Hall Nursing Home. She enjoyed bus trips and playing the slot machines in Atlantic City. Her family was the most important thing to her and she loved to have family close especially backyard barbeques by the pool and the holidays when she would make her irresistible lasagna and chicken.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Robert Smith and children Wesley of Ocean, Dennis of South Carolina, Barbara Pollock (Joe) West Long Branch five grandchildren: Wendy, Katie, Kevin, Ann Marie, Jacquelyn and great granddaughter Peyton. She will be missed by all who were privileged to know her.
