Mary Alice Lennert, a long-time resident of Lincroft, passed away on August 21, 2022 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was born on a dairy farm in Brainardsville, NY in 1932. She lived in Spotswood, NJ before settling in her home in Lincroft for 66 years.
Mary Alice graduated from schools in Chateaugay, NY and attended Plattsburg State Teacher’s College, NY. She later graduated from Kean University, NJ with an Undergraduate degree (BA) and Master’s degree (MA).
She met her husband, Andy Lennert, while she worked at the Banner House Inn on the lower Chateaugay Lake. Andy worked at Tanager Lodge, an overnight wilderness camp on upper Chateaugay Lake. They were married in 1952 and spent the next 60 years together. Every summer, they continued their love of the Adirondacks and each other, spending 2 weeks vacationing at Chateaugay Lake.
They had three children: Kathy Bantel & her husband Rich, Drew Lennert & his wife Amy, Annemarie Darling & her husband Sean. Mary Alice was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Caity Bantel, Amanda & Andrew Lennert, John, Luke, Brett, Faith, Keith & Paul Darling. Mary Alice is also survived by her younger brother, Tom Baker. Mary Alice was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, Andy Lennert; and her older brother Jack Baker.
Mary Alice was a loving mother, grandmother (Grammie/Gram), friend and teacher. She substituted in the Middletown School District & taught Special Education for many years at the New Monmouth Elementary School.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Colts Neck, NJ and a member of the Martha Mary Guild and their choir. Mary Alice also sang with the Shrewsbury Chorale. She was active with the BSA Troop 110 Ladies Auxiliary and the Retired Middletown Teachers Association. Mary Alice & Andy loved to travel, having gone to Ireland twice, a Western National Parks Tour and of course, their yearly trips to their North Country Adirondacks & Chateaugay Lake.
We will forever miss her love of family and her enjoyment of the times spent together.
