Michael R. Gleason, 75 of Ocean Township passed away on Monday, Sept. 13th at Monmouth Medical Center.
He was born in Many, Louisiana in 1945 to Ray and Ruth Gleason. He earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from L.S.U. in 1968. Then moved to New Jersey with his wife in 1968.
Michael served as a Captain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for the Department of Defense at Fort Monmouth until he retired in 2001. His family had many adventures, which included a 3-year stint in Bruxelles, Belgium. Viewings of the original slide carousel photos can be made by appointment only.
He was an avid tennis player, cultivating a love of sport with his kids. He enjoyed playing chess and any activity that required deep thought and rigorous debate – other than spelling. He delighted in teasing and playing with both his children and grandchildren, whom he loved and adored.
Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Donna K. Gleason; their children, Michelle Alessi, Mark Gleason and Matthew Gleason, and their beloved partners Mark Alessi, Jeanette Straughn and Jeni Gleason; his siblings, Ben Gleason, Beth Martin, Anne Hyde and Sandy Koerner; their spouses; his ten grandchildren, Ashley, Thomas & Nicholas Alessi; Alexander & Connor Gleason, and their mother Dessi; Gates, Ronin, Imogen, Saoirse and Quinn Gleason.
Michael will be interred at the William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in a private family service with military honors.
Flowers are not currently being accepted at the cemetery. However, Michael was passionate about following and supporting progress in the treatment of many neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s (www.alz.org) and Parkinson’s (www.parkinson.org) Diseases.
