Patricia Bolich Delehanty, 91, of West Long Branch passed away peacefully Monday, April 25th.
Patsy was born and raised in Brooklyn and Spring Lake. She graduated from Rosemont College in 1953. Patsy met her husband Jim at the University of Pennsylvania, and they married in 1954 in Spring Lake. The Delehanty’s moved to West Long Branch from Havertown, PA in 1961 where they raised their eight children.
Patsy volunteered in West Long Branch for over 52 years, starting in 1965 with various fundraisers and events for the West Long Branch-Oceanport Sharks Pop Warner Football. From 1967 to 1977 Patsy also volunteered at St. Jerome School, spending most of her time in the library. She served as President of the St. Jerome School PTA for several terms. She was a long-time member of the Friends of the West Long Branch Library, chairing many events including the “Library Teas”, book signings and fundraisers at the Community Center. She was an active member of WLB’s Democratic Party, serving as chair for several years, and always loved working in various capacities for the annual WLB Fair for many years. She was a valuable member of Shore Regional High School’s Booster Club for 18 years.
Patsy was a long-time member of the Recreation Commission serving as Chair from 1983-2004. She was an active member for WLB’s 75th Anniversary celebration and was a committee member for the Michael Thorne Scholarship Run up until the last run in 2017. It was no surprise when Patsy was honored as West Long Branch Community Center Woman of the Year in 2012.
For forty-four summers, Patsy & her family could be found at Takanassee Beach Club. Once Tak closed, Patsy enjoyed her summers at Breakwater Beach Club where she spent her time reading her books. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s RC Church and a supporter of Stella Maris Retreat Center.
Patsy was predeceased by her parents Mary & Daniel Bolich; her husband James; her son James B. III, her brother Daniel and her sister Mary Waskiewicz. Surviving are her children Daniel and his wife Susan, William, Christopher, Patricia, Suzanne and her husband Michael Zelich, Thomas and his wife Eileen, Mary and her wife Beth Sarfaty; her daughter-in-law Wendy Delehanty; her grandchildren Daniel Jr. & his wife Erica, Patrick, Stacy & her husband Kyle, Brian, Kelsey & her husband Lee, Courtney & her fiancé Dan, Ean, Colin, Nora and James; and her great-grandson James. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Bolich, and her sister Ann Bolich.
Visitation Friday, April 29th 4:00-8:00 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Mass of Christian burial Saturday, April 30th 9:00 am at St. Michael’s RC Church, 800 Ocean Avenue, Long Branch. Entombment to follow in Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport.
