It is with profound sadness we share the passing of Peter Anthony DeCenzo Jr.; Age 81 of Colts Neck, New Jersey. He entered into eternal life peacefully at his home in Colts Neck, Monday, February 7,2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 2, 1940 to Italian immigrant parents Primiano and Mary DeCenzo in Jersey City.
He always wanted to be a General Contractor, in 1957 he established DeCenzo Builders, INC. in Little Silver, NJ at the age of 17. For years he built with great pride and success many homes, banks, buildings and car dealerships in Monmouth and Ocean County. He was highly respected in the building industry and looked upon as one of the most outstanding contractors. Other businesses he started were Little Silver Kitchen and Bath now S DeCenzo Designs, and Brick Recycling. Currently still owned and operated by his family.
He believed in giving back to the family, friends and community making wherever he resided a better place for everyone. He was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, building their headquarters and going on to donate many buildings at Camp Forestburgh, Forestburgh, New York. Being named man of the year in 1974 from the Boy Scouts of America, 1989 from the United States Reserve Police Association and 2008 from Stivale D’Italia for his outstanding charity work.
Pete married his wife Santa DeCenzo in 1961, she was the love of his life. In 1965 they had their first child Mary and in 1973 their son Peter. He always enjoyed traveling with the family to Florida and the islands and to Europe with his wife.
Peter was proud of his children and grandsons’ accomplishments, and always told them that they could do anything they put their minds to and wanted nothing more than for them to be happy and successful. He will be missed immensely by his family and friends, for Pete’s presences left an indelible mark on your memory and in your heart forever.
In addition to making friends wherever he went, Pete enjoyed being with his buddies at Deal Golf and Country Club for over 40 Years.
Pete was predeceased by his mother Mary, father Primiano, sister Theresa Camera, brothers Dominic DeCenzo, Anthony DeCenzo, Louis DeCenzo.
Pete is survived by his wife Santa of sixty years, daughter Mary DeCenzo-Hazan, husband Arthur Hazan, grandsons Jacob and Noah, his son Peter DeCenzo III, wife Heather and grandsons Roman and Lucian.
Visitation Thursday, February 10, 3:00 -8:00 PM, at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday. February 11th, 11 am at St. Mary Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Entombment to follow at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport.
