Ralph G. “Red†Binder, 84 of Brick, formerly of Long Branch, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Alcoeur Gardens in Brick. He was born in Long Branch and was active in civic affairs. He was a graduate of Long Branch High School and attended Monmouth Junior College. Ralph served in the Navy on aircraft carrier USS Midway where he was the ship’s newspaper editor, starting his lifelong interest in photography. He worked at The Long Branch Daily Record before taking a job as the college photographer at University of Rhode Island. He moved backed to Long Branch and was employed at Monmouth College for over 30 years as the college photographer and Director of Instructional Media Center. Ralph was a professional photographer and locally renowned for wedding and bar mitzvah photography. He was an active member of Jewish War Veterans, and exempt and life member, and past captain, of Independence Fire Co. Long Branch, and a 30-year member and former captain of Elberon First Aid Squad. Ralph was pre-deceased by his wife, Rosemarie Astorino Binder, his parents, Molly and Alexander Binder and his sister, Clare Gruber. Surviving are his children, Tamra and her husband William LaRocco, South Amboy and Alex Binder, Long Branch; two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Austin Binder; two sisters, Idelle Edelstein and Esther Karasic, and former his wife, Sonia Binder. Funeral services officiated by Rabbi Cy Stanway, Friday, 1:30 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
