Richard A. Granger, born January 10, 1944 in New York City, died March 28, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He graduated from Pace University and received his Masters Degree from City College. Mr. Granger spent his career in the Fragrance and Software industries as an Executive for companies including Pfizer, Faberge, Halston Orlane, and On-Line Software (OSI). Mr. Granger also donated his time to various causes including serving as a Board Member of the Gimbel MS Center, Board Member of MOCEANS, and past President of St. Benedict Parish Council. He was predeceased by his mother Marie DeGuardi Capolongo and his father, Aniello Capolongo, and his constant canine companion, Jessie. Richard is survived by his #1 caregiver and the love of his life, wife of 47 years, Lillian (nee Dull). Beloved father of Kerren Yuschak (Michael), Richard J (Alison), Kristin Hambelton (Paul), and Jennifer Varga (Mark). Also survived by his brother Robert, sister Joan, and his best friend of 61 years, Frederick Atkins. He is also survived by his 7 adored grandchildren, Michael Cleary (MC), Tommy, Will, Johnny, Dan, Kaelyn, and Andrew, who were his partners in crime. He lived and breathed for them and they thought that the sun rose and set with their Papa Rich. He taught them how to play poker, helped with their homework, and most of all enjoyed eating ice cream with them. Richard's family would like to thank his long-term caregivers Mary Ellen, Chris, Arlene, and Shawn for their compassion and dedicated care which were true gifts to our father. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Thursday at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 11am at St. Benedict R.C. Church in Holmdel. Entombment will be in St. Catharine's Cemetery in Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Richard's name be made to eradicate the disease that he fought so valiantly against and that he hoped to see a cure for in his lifetime. It is with great sadness that I heard of Richard�s passing. Unfortunately, I can�t be there, but I wanted to express my feelings. It is not enough to say that he �fought the good fight� although he clearly did so. Rather, let us say that brave men and women can do incredible things and can keep doing them for years and years, and be much more than their affliction. In many ways, Richard�s fight inspired my wife Dena in her fight against cancer. As I expect was the case with Richard, the Doctors underestimated Dena�s ability to fight and keep going. Unfortunately, as with Dena, eventually Richard could fight no longer. We have lost two brave spirits who will be remembered.
