To all our family and friends,
We would like to tell you a few stories of Steve that capture who he is, not just where he was born, or what school he went to or where he worked; for we all know these things do not describe the man. We will tell you most importantly the memories we and others have in the enjoyment of Steve, and his enjoyments as well.
Although quiet and understated, Steve saw a clever comedic anecdote in every situation. He was a big fan of Mel Brooks, Monty Python, Seinfeld, the Zucker Brothers, and Steve Martin, to name a few, even dressing up as Steve Martin for Halloween, complete with white suit, arrow-through-the-head, bunny ears and large-nose-eyeglasses. Steve’s off-hand comments kept himself and those around him in constant chuckle mode. Recently, a good friend told a story of how he was catching up on the phone with Steve, and talking of his own retirement, told Steve
“Well, I have a cat, I play pickle ball, and I deliver flowers part time” and Steve quickly responded- “we can’t be friend s anymore”, chuckling in his typical way.
As president of his condominium association, he was always fielding complaints about exterior issues. One year he sent a text, describing how the complex was truly now falling into ill repair- and attached a photo of his front yard, focusing on his pumpkin, which was starting to collapse, with a squirrels tail sticking out of the back of the pumpkin.
When starting PT, he complained there was a silly rule there- “no pants no therapy”.
He loved sports- he was a big Giants fan, Mets fan, and Rangers fan. He loved sports facts and trivia.
Music was such an important part of his life, amassing over 6,000 songs on his Spotify, always sharing them with friends and family, and he enjoyed going to concerts and shows. He loved working out at his local gym, he loved the Jersey shore, especially Manasquan Beach. He was thoughtful and kind, not thinking twice about traveling an hour and a half for a special gift for his nephew at Christmas.
He was a wonderful brother. He was a wonderful uncle. He was a wonderful friend.
We enjoyed him so. He will be missed.
Steve Martin was born in Lansing Michigan on December 3rd, 1958.
He was raised outside of Pittsburg, PA until the age of 9, when his family settled in East Brunswick, NJ. Steve graduated from East Brunswick High School, and then furthered his education at Rider College, graduating with a BS.
Our Thanksgiving is truly a Thanksgiving Day.
We are so very thankful for Steve.
“As you know we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Jobs perseverance and have seen what the Lord has brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.”
James 5:11
