Toby was born in New York City and remained a true New Yorker throughout his life. He was an intelligent and curious person who valued learning and education. He earned his master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York. He lived in Brooklyn before settling in Plainview, Long Island, where he raised his family.

Toby had a quick wit and a remarkable memory. He loved watching Jeopardy! and was usually the first to come up with the answer. He was also a lifelong Mets fan, sticking with the team through all the highs and lows.

Above all, Toby loved his family. He was a devoted father to Lawrence and Penny and took great pride in their lives. But his grandchildren, Emily and Tyler, brought him a special kind of happiness. He absolutely adored them. He loved talking about them, sharing stories, and telling anyone who would listen how proud he was of them. Their accomplishments, personalities, and everyday lives gave him enormous pride and joy. They were truly one of the greatest sources of happiness in his life.

Toby is survived by his children, Lawrence Keller and Penny (Joe) Szumaski, his grandchildren, Emily and Tyler. He will be remembered for his intelligence, curiosity, quick wit, love of the Mets, and, most of all, the love and pride he had for his family and especially his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A funeral home service will be offered on Thursday, September 17 from 11:30 am at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Friends of the family are welcomed to begin arriving at 11:00 am.
