Vincent J. Caruana 92, of Middletown passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Born in New York City, Vincent lived in Brooklyn prior to moving to Middletown, NJ 14 years ago. Mr. Caruana was the Owner of Joe Caruana & Sons Grocery in Brooklyn, NY. Vincent was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. Surviving is his wife of 67 years Lucretia Caruana (nee Catanzaro) two sons, James Caruana and his wife Barbara, and Richard Caruana, two daughters Stephanie Caruana, and Geri Cincotta and her husband Tony, two sisters Josephine D�Amico, and Catherine Maccone, 8 grandchildren Michael, BJ, Vinnie, Tony, Gabrielle, Matthew, Ali, and Lauren, and 3 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00AM. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Caruana�s name to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I was very sorry to hear of Uncle Jim's passing. I will always remember his dark black hair and mustache. So distinctive. Most of all, I remember all those days at 7509-13th Avenue, Beachview 6-2991. Uncrating eggs (he always scolded us for tossing them around), restocking the milk, packing orders and helping out Freddie on the truck. It was Uncle Jim who gave me my first crack at the REAL cash register!!! He was one of a kind and will be missed. His spirit will always remain with the family. I always wanted to get the chance to say thank you to Jimmy for all he and his brother Carmine(Carmen)had done for my family as I was growing up. No one who ever knew Joe Caruana's sons would go hungry if they could help it. Always discreetly they would be there to help the single mom, senior or out of work neighbor. 'Caruana's' was the center of the universe for us on that block. Whether it was a doctor back from a house call or a neighbor crank looking for the perfect tomato, Jimmy never treated either one differently. He was more than a kind, compassionate man with a great sense of humor, he was a role model. His example lives on in his wonderful family. My condolences to the Caruana & Maccone families. God bless you. I always love & remember you, Mr. Caruana.
