Our deepest condolences to Nancy and the entire family. We are so sorry for your loss. We will always have the best memories of Mr. Haze and we are all here for you and your family during this difficult time.
Bill and Scott I am very sorry to hear about Dad’s passing. We first meet in the Army reserve and quickly became friends. We shared a love of basketball and on our two week summer camps with the army we would play basketball and tennis. May I
He rest in peace. Mike Shannon
My deepest condolences to the family of Coach Haze. From all the responses people have submitted and in my personal experience in knowing the legend himself, Coach Haze profoundly influenced the lives of so many people for the better.
As one of his players from 2008-2010, I quickly learned that Coach Haze spoke with few words and imparted lasting wisdom for his players. He truly cared and all the players knew how much he meant to the team.
In the 2009-2010, Shore Conference Finals Games, we were down at halftime to a team we had already beaten twice that season. Coach Haze stood quietly as Coach Billet gave his halftime strategy. Once Coach Billet was done speaking, Coach Haze stood in the middle of the locker room, looked at the entire team with a stern look in his eyes and said "Men, play ornery." Three words were worth its weight in gold in that moment and we proceeded to blow the opponent out.
Over the last few years, I have had the privilege in sharing updates about my children with Coach Haze and despite being reminded that I should be thankful that my children look like my wife, he always took the time to tell me how great of a father I was for them. I could go on and on about how much Coach meant to me, but everyone knows because he meant so much to everyone.
RIP to the Legendary Coach, my friend.
Dear Sir,
Our sincere condolences on the passing of Coach Haze. He was a wonderful , life changing. influence on our son John Salcedo. Not only did he guide John during CBA basketball , but he guided him through life choices. John is currently underway on the US Texas, otherwise he would respond directly. All our love and heartfelt appreciation for Coach Haze and his family.
My deepest sympathy to Nancy, Bill, Scott and the entire Hazelton family.
Bill and I shared many great times together throughout our years as teachers, coaches and administrators in the Union school district. Thanks for the memories Billy.
Rest in peace!
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
My prayers go out to Coach Haze and his family. I was blessed to play under coach from 2002-2004 at CBA. He instilled the importance of defense, but more importantly was enjoyable to be around. I wanted to be a great defender so that I could make him proud. I instill a lot of what he taught me into the players that I coach now. His lessons have done made my teams very good. I always loved hearing the stories that he told. He was such a great part of the CBA coaching staff. He will be missed.
Very sorry for your loss. Coach Haze was tough, reinforced the values & work ethic that our parents taught us. Won the 1975 UC BB Tournament because Coach was able to bring out the best & beyond in each athlete on the team. Remember Billy and Scotty at our practices watching the master at work. Forever in our memories! RIP
This one really hurts. I was blessed to have Mr. Hazelton as my Vice Principal at UHS class of 2000. He was more like a father figure that I needed during that time. He pushed me to join the R.O.T.C. program my freshman year & try out for the Raider team. I’m crying as I type this… When he gave me my black beret on stage when I made the Raiders Team he gave me this quiet, “Hoorah, Rios” like a proud Dad moment. I swear I only made that team to impress him. I believed because he believed. Best feeling ever. My heart breaks knowing I had a career the last 13 years in Monmouth Beach/Rumson/Sea Bright area and never had the gift of running into him one last time. Coach, thank you. God bless you and your family. You are a tremendous loss to so many and are so loved and respected and of course so deeply missed already.

Having known Coach for a few years we were both impressed by his dedication to the kids he coached as well as his knowledge of baketball.
He truely gave his all and he expected that same effort by those he coached. God bless his soul.
Mr. Hazelton was one of my favorite teachers at UHS (class of 72). We always wished each other HBDs on FB. I felt honored that he remembered me and took the time to send a bday greeting. He was a great teacher and educator. I am saddened by his loss. My condolences to the entire Hazelton family. May his memory be a blessing. RIP Mr. H. :-(. hugs

Mr. Hazelton was Vice Principal when I was in UHS. He was in the Army Reserves with my Dad and I always felt that he kept an eye on me to make sure that I stayed out of trouble.
One of my memories of him was from my senior year. The night of my Senior Prom, I was involved in an accident. He asked if I would like him to come with me when I called my parents to let them know.
Understandably, I was upset and he knew that and got on the phone with my Dad to ensure him that I was ok, the car was ok and that I was going to enjoy myself and he would see me when I got home. He was very reassuring and I never forgot his kindness that night.
My sincere condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him. He was a genuinely good man who cared about people. RIP, kind sir.
Haze, you will be missed my friend. My condolences to you family.
Mr Haze was one of our fondest memories of HS. Cliff played BB for him and Coach Fox. I cheered at all the games and he was at Cliffs 60th birthday a year and a half ago. He looked really good. We had so many laughs and shared memories of a lifetime. May he rest in.peace in Jesus' name. AMEN 🙏
Truly an outstanding person! He will be missed by his family & a great many of his friends & acquaintances A man that was looked up too by so many people!!!!! Bill Glasser (Union Police Dept Ret.)
Mr. Hazelton was my US history teacher in 1969/1970. He was the kind of teacher that stayed with me all my life. I loved his class and learned so much. It began a lifelong love of U S history and nvolvement in politics. Although our political views were divergent, he gave me the gift of critical thinking. RIP Mr. H.

My condolences to Mr. Hazelton's family. I graduated UHS 55 years ago (1969) but I still remember Mr. Hazelton's history class and have thought of him often over the years. He was a great teacher and his class was interesting. I remember him loudly telling us "horrendous" when one of us did or said something stupid.

My heartfelt condolences to Bill’s Family I had the opportunity to work with Him at UHS as a juvenile detective . Bill was always helpful and easy to work with in my investigations . No doubt one of the best! May God Bless His Wonderful Soul
My deepest condolences to your family. My husband and I both had him as a teacher. He was tough, but fair. I learned so much that year.
I would need to dig through boxes to find it, but I know it's in one, because I see it every few years when I'm on a search. I think it might have been his first year of teaching - at Kawameeh JHS, or was it UHS? We were celebrating the end of the year and everybody ponied up to buy him a pewter mug with his initials. In the picture, he is standing at the front of the class, under the flag, pointing to the mug, smiling SO BROADLY. He was much loved by everyone in the class, and obviously won't be forgotten. RIP.
Mr Hazelton was one of the biggest influences on my life,I respected him greatly and consider him a mentor."Haz"commanded respect and received it from everyone! It was a honor to know and play for him and I shall never forget him.
Nancy & family, our deepest, heartfelt condolences 🙏 Haze was a wonderful man, and friend who will be missed, but will live on forever in our hearts! Another angel received his wings, we heard the bells! Love Lyn & Mare
Our prayers and memories are with you and your family. Rest in Peace Mr. Hazelton.

RIP Mr Haze. You were the best tennis instructor!
I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Coach Hazelton. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Coach Hazelton was my basketball and tennis coach at UHS. I loved the toughness he instilled in each of his players. You felt confident when you looked over to the sideline and saw him standing there. He was a mentor to me, and I’m sure to many others. I had a lot of coaches over the years playing sports, and I have to put Coach Haz at the top of my list. We we all miss him.
So sad to hear that my tennis coach at Union High School, Bill Hazelton, passed away yesterday. He was a coach who's integrity, organization and discipline shaped my future career. He believed in me when, as a new and aspiring 16 year old sophomore tennis player, named me to the starting line up at first doubles and my tennis career began. He was strict, but fair and expected his players to be committed to the team. He was a former baseball and basketball player at St. Peters who became a student of the game of tennis and a respected high school coach who was once named NJ High Tennis Coach of the Year. I was honored to follow in his footsteps when I won the same award years later. He once told me how he followed my career and was proud of the things I accomplished in my tennis career. I told him, "It wouldn't have happened without you guidance". He will be missed
One of the best mentors and principals rip haze
Mr. Hazelton holds such a special place in my heart. He always was there with a joke or to remind you to get back in line when it was needed. His love for UHS and the students was always felt with his presence and his attention to wanting the best for the school and the students. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May his memory always be a blessing. Rest in peace Mr. Hazelton, I’m sure you know how much you were loved by all who were fortunate to cross paths with you.

I will always remember you fondly. You were so kind to me in high school, even when I didn’t deserve it, yet, you knew! God Speed, Haze.
