Irene Kallighan ( nee Chassar), age 93 of West Long Branch passed away peacefully on Jan. 11, at Jersey Shore Center in Eatontown.

She was born and raised in Jersey City and moved to Peter Cooper Village in West Long Branch in 1988. Irene was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Jersey City. She was a past President of the Library Guild, Rosary Society and Cana Council. She also sat on the Executive Board of St. Dominic Academy and St. Francis Hospital Guild. Irene was a member of St. Jerome Parish and a life member of the West Long Branch Ladies Auxiliary #1.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, a Jersey City Fireman and her son-in-law, Frank Bulzis.

Surviving are her daughters, Doreen Bulzis and Kathy Policastro of West Long Branch, grandsons Joseph & Marisa Policastro of Branchburg and Mark Bulzis of West Long Branch. Irene has two great grandsons, John and Matthew Policastro of Branchburg.

A viewing will be held at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch on Friday, January 12 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Jerome Church, 254 Wall Street, West Long Branch on Saturday, January 13 at 9:30 am followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the West Long Branch Ladies Auxiliary #1.
